Edinburgh is famous worldwide for not just its beauty but its diverse and entertaining cultural events, the most recognised of these events would be the Edinburgh Festival.

The Edinburgh festival is actually several different events occurring during the months of July till end of August. Included in amalgamation of the Edinburgh Festival are the International Festival, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The International Film Festival and the International Book Festival.

The Edinburgh International Festival is thought to have first begun in 1947 and was created to increase the populace moral from the losses of the Second World War. Held today at The Hub, a towering gothic building impressive in itself, the International Festival is a collection of theatre arts bringing performers from around the world in displays of opera, music, theatre and dance

Far from being an attraction purely for the locals, the festival attracts visitors from around the globe and is thought to have an attendance of approximately 350,000 visitors every year. Aside from the indoor theatre performances there are often amateur displays to be seen on many corners to entertain the curious onlookers. 

The International Festival also aims to have an educational benefit to the area by hosting workshops, talks and lectures all to increase awareness of artistic culture.
